The strength of a country's passport depends on the number of countries or destinations it provides free access to.

The 2018 Henley Passport Index ranks all of the passports of the world based on the criteria as to how many destinations can be accessed by the particular country's passport holder visa-free. Further, as and when changes in visa-policy come into effect, the index gets updated in real time.

Japan has topped the ranking as the most powerful passport surpassing Singapore with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to as many as 190 destinations while Singapore's total stands at 189. This year, the ranking of both the US and UK has slipped, providing visa-free access to 186 destinations.

"With stagnant outbound visa activity compared to Asian high-performers such as Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, it seems increasingly unlikely that the US and the UK will regain the number one spot they jointly held in 2015," the statement said.

On the 2018 Henley Passport index, Afghanistan and Iraq spotted the lowest rank, as passport holders of these nations have visa-free access to just 30 countries.
