If you hold an account with the State Bank of India (SBI), you are required to get your mobile number registered with the lender before 1 December, as per the bank's website. Failure to do so would lead to deactivation of online banking services.
"Please register your mobile number by November 30.2018, failing which your internet banking access may be deactivated/blocked with effect from December 1, 2018," the bank said.
As per RBI guidelines, banks are required to send SMS alerts to its customers on any electronic transactions. Additionally, to perform online transactions through net banking the bank is required to perform a 2-factor authentication, that is two levels of protection, one is the password and the second is the OTP send to registered mobile numbers.
To register the mobile number with your account, visit any of the SBI branches. The registration will also help you with receiving alerts on your cell phone. You can also register your email address to receive the OTP over emails in case your phone fails. Make sure to do it by 30 November 2018.
Never share your user ID, password or OTP with anyone to secure your online banking services.
