Spot Airfares At Delhi Airport Shoot Up As Runway Shut Partially

As the runway at the Delhi airport is up for repairs and hence shut partially, last-minute average fares from the city to some of the key destinations have seen a massive price increase by as much as 86% owing to high weekend demand. Also, on the sidelines some of the flights from the airport are being cancelled.

Early, in October, the private aerodrome operator DIAL or Delhi International Airport Ltd made an announcement that one of the three run-ways will be shut for preventive repair for 13 days starting November 15. And in its wake, the different airlines had been asked to time their flights accordingly. As a result, last-minute or sport airfares by many of the airlines have been noted to rise sharply that has been reflected in the different travel portals on Friday.

 

Primarily, the rates are on the higher end for flights from Delhi to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai and other destinations for one week starting November 16 to November 19.

As per the data by Ixigo, travel portal, the rate of Delhi-Bengaluru flight on on regular day is Rs. 11,044 but for today the air-ticket is being available at a premium i.e. Rs. 13,702. Also flight to Mumbai today can be made at Rs. 11,060 as against Rs. 9,228 as on any other day.

It is to be noted that runway tagged as 09/27 is shut for repair while there are other two other runways that are currently operating.
