The government today has extended the date to file annual GST returns by another three months time to March 31, 2019. Earlier GST annual return filing was to be completed latest by December 31, 2018.

In a statement used by CBIC, the requisite FORMs shall be made available on the GST common portal shortly. Relevant order is being issued and its regard the order has been passed. So, the due date to file GST return forms including GSTR-9, form GSTR-9A and form GSTR-9C has now been extended till March 31, 2019.
As per the CGST rules, the different forms have been notified in September this year.
The extension will favour taxpayer as an array of nuances remain understood even by large taxpayers and on these government will be able to conduct an awareness campaign and resolve such queries.
It is to be noted that the extension has been made for FY 2017-18, the CAIT has urged that as the format of filing is available only on the GST site, the timeline to file GST return is very less and hence extension was asked for.
