As per the RBI document, it will soon roll out a new Rs 20 currency note that will have additional features. Since demonetisation after the introduction of new Rs. 200 and Rs. 2,000 currency notes, the central bank also issued new currency notes in the denomination of Rs. 10, Rs. 50, Rs 100, and Rs 500.

The new notes with a different look are being rolled out since November 2016 under Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. All currency notes issued under old series are legal tender except for scrapped currency in Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denomination.

It is to be noted that the new look notes differ from the old series in design as well as size.

As per the RBI database, there have been 4.92 billion pieces of currency notes in Rs. 20 denomination that were in circulation as on March 31, 2016. And this number as on March 2018 has been more than doubled to 10 billion pieces.
