1 Lakh Digital Villages To Be Created In Next 5 Years: FM

In the Interim Budget 2019, the interim finance minister Piyush Goyal introduced the concept of Digital Villages and said that 1 lakh such villages will be built in the next five years. The task to create these will be taken up by the Common Service Centres (CSCs) who will build the digital infrastructure in villages.

CSC is a Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) initiative that serves as the access points for delivery of various electronic services to Indian villages.

Goyal said that India has made significant progress in delivering of mobile data services to the remote area and the cost of data and voice calls in the country may now possibly the lowest in the world.
