In the Interim Budget 2019 speech, finance minister Piyush Goyal said that the allocation for Rashtriya Gokul Mission was increased to Rs 750 crore in the current year. The 'cow welfare' mission was introduced in 2014 to conserve and develop indigenous breeds in a focused and scientific manner, according to a government statement.

In the budget speech, Goyal also proposed to provide 2 percent interest subvention for farmers pursuing animal husbandry and fisheries. A separate department for Fisheries will be created he further said.
