Sensex, Nifty Plummet On Last Minute Sell-Off
The Indian equity markets saw an intensified sell-off in the last 30 minutes before the market close, dragging the two benchmark indices down. While NSE's Nifty fell from its 11,000-mark, BSE's Sensex dropped over a percent.
The sell-off was visible across the sectors, with maximum fall seen in automobiles, consumption, metals, and infra companies, among others. The biggest losers were Tata Motors, Vedanta, and Indiabulls Housing.
At closing time, Sensex dropped 424.61 points or 1.15 percent to 36546.48, while the Nifty lowered 125.80 points or 1.14 percent to 10943.60. A wide change was seen in market breadth 1,552 shares declines as against 950 shares. 125 shares remained unchanged.
Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Bharti Infratel were the top gainers for the day.
