Booking Train Ticket Online: Know Debit, Credit Card, Net Banking Charges
While booking train tickets through the online mode is the easiest and most flexible method of doing it, the convenience charges levied on such a transaction makes the ticket costlier for customers. A number of banks provide railway ticket booking facility on IRCTC and in just a few steps a customer can book his or her ticket.
Here are provided the transaction or convenience charges charged by banks and Indian Railways catering service provider IRCTC for booking Indian Railways ticket online.
If train ticket booking is made using credit or debit cards:
If you happen to be a Visa or Mastercard holder then some of the banks including HDFC Bank, CitiBank, Paytm, PayU and even IRCTC will levy 1.8% plus taxes for booking railways ticket using credit card. Axis Bank for rail ticket booking charges lesser @ 1.65% plus applicable taxes on credit cards.
In case of debit cards, banks like Axis and HDFC Bank do not charge any amount for train ticket booking. While some others like SBI, CitiBank, Union Bank, Paytm etc. do not levy any fee for transaction of value up to Rs. 1 lakh.
Net Banking transaction charges
Banks including SBI Bank, Federal Bank, Allahabad Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Vijaya Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Andhra Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Central Bank of India, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank levy a transaction fee of Rs. 10 plus taxes for train ticket booking. Also, IRCTC charges the same amount on their net banking facility.
While there are certain banks including the likes of Union Bank, Bank of India, Indian Bank, Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank, PNB that charge Rs. 10 per transaction for booking railway tickets using net banking. Hence they do not charge any amount as taxes.
Further, if you use net banking facility of Karur Vysya Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and South Indian Bank for booking train tickets then you will not be charged any transaction fee and taxes.
