As per official sources, Union Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to take charge of the Finance Ministry on Friday, after returning from the US last week.

On January 13, the minister left for New York for medical treatment after he was reportedly diagnosed with soft tissue cancer. Thereafter on January 23, Piyush Goyal, railway minister, was given the charge of Finance Ministry and Corporate Affairs on an interim basis, who also announced the sixth and the last budget of the Modi led government.

In accordance with the sources, Jaitley after resuming his duties as the finance minister will attend a Cabinet Committee on Security meet for discussing the Pulwama attack, which resulted in the killing of at least CRPF personnel.

Earlier also Jaitley stopped attending office due to his medical condition beginning April last year and again took charge after undergoing renal transplant surgery on August 23, 2018. During this period also, Piyush Goyal was tasked to handle the affairs of the finance ministry for some 100 days.
