RBI Alerts Bank Customers On Data Theft Using ‘AnyDesk' App
As incidence of frauds are on the rise using UPI or Unified Payment Interface, the central bank has cautioned bankers and payment system operators about the latest mobile app named Anydesk i.e. being resorted to by scammers for targeting customers' mobile phones.
The remote control app Anydesk is used to connect one device with the other and generally people who move from one place to the other mostly use it.
The cybersecurity and IT examination cell of the RBI in its alert dated February 14 said that the Anytime app is being used to access data on mobile phones. Similar to other apps, once the app is installed on the app, it asks for permission for accessing controls of the mobile device.
As per the circular, an app code in 9 digits is generated and once the scamster inserts it, mobile data owner will be asked for the permission for accessing mobile data.Subsequently, fraudsters are given full access to the customer's device, using which they access confidential data on the device and carry out illicit transactions using different payment gateways.
