SBI Launches Doorstep Services For Senior Citizens Over 70 Years Old
The State Bank of India (SBI) has launched priced doorstep banking services for senior citizens over 75 years of age and also for customers who are differently abled, infirm or visually impaired.
This facility will, however, be made available for those living within the 5 km radius of selected SBI branches. A fee of Rs 100 will be charged per financial transaction while non-financial transactions will cost Rs 60.
To avail the service, the customers will have to register at their home branch. The differently abled and infirm customers will also have to submit a medical certificate regarding their condition while registering.
The RBI had directed banks to offer doorstep banking services to those who cannot make it to the branches in a 2017 circular that said, "In view of the difficulties faced by senior citizens of more than 70 years of age and differently abled or infirm persons (having medically certified chronic illness or disability), banks are advised to make a concerted effort to provide basic banking facilities." Many banks are yet to take up the policy.
