The total number of telecom subscribers in India has surged up to hit a record 120.5 crore on account of the addition of new customers by both state-owned BSNL and Reliance Jio as per the data released by the telecom regulator Trai.

The data stated that both Reliance Jio and BSNL have jointly managed to add 86.39 lakh mobile subscribers but the other operators in the industry lost close to 69.93 lakh wireless customers. The Vodafone Idea lost the biggest chunk of the customer base as per the reports.
The country witnessed a record increase in the number of telecom subscribers as it hit 120.54 crores by the end of February 2019 compared to the previous record of 120.37 crores during January 2019.
The data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) stated that Reliance Jio added close to 77.93 lakh customers and took the total subscriber base to touch 29.7 crores by the end of February 2019. The state-run BSNL managed to add around 9 lakh new customers to its existing base taking the total to 11.62 crores in February 2019.
The Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL - Anupam Shrivastava stated that "BSNL is the only operator other than Jio that has gained customers. Our performance shows that customers have faith in BSNL. We are able to compete and gain customers with our much-improved 3G network. In our endeavour to provide service, all our officers and employees are together,".
The BSNL is still competing in the telecom industry with the 3G network, whereas all other players are weighted with 4G services. The report also mentioned that the Vodafone Idea lost a customer base of 57.87 lakh mobile subscribers thereby shrinking their customer base to mere 40.93 crores during February 2019. Following this Tata Teleservices lost close to 11.47 lakh mobile customers, Airtel lost 49,896 subscribers, MTNL lost 4,652 subscribers and Reliance Communications lost 3,611 subscribe base.
