Sensex, Nifty in the opening session started flat in Friday's trade and gained ground just ahead of exit polls due to be announced on Sunday after polling ends. At the closing hours, markets surged a huge over 500 points, while Nifty also gained over150 points.

Markets are expected to be highly volatile before the election results come in on May 23.

After good results, both the Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance stocks gained in trade today.

IOC also reported a surge in net profit by 750%, soon after the results, the stock was quoting down by over Rs. 1.

Also, in the early trading hours, Yes Bank gained some 6% after the appointment of R Gandhi on the board is aimed at strengthening the bank.

FMCG stocks and HDFC twins also led to the gains in the benchmark indices today.
