Sensex, Nifty Close At New Highs

The Indian equity benchmarks saw a strong close on Monday. Extending gains for the second consecutive trading session, BSE's Sensex closed 248 points or 0.63 percent higher at 39,683.29 and the NSE's Nifty 50 ended at 11,924.75, up by 0.68 percent, both at their new record closing highs.

Further, NSE's Nifty 500, a broader market index, closed 0.85 percent higher. Overall, about 1,782 shares rose, 797 shares declined, and 160 shares remained unchanged.

Eight out of eleven sectoral indices compiled by NSE ended higher, led by the NSE Nifty Realty which gained 2.18 percent. Nifty Pharma, on other hand, was the top sectoral loser, down by 0.97 percent.

Tata Steel, Yes Bank, NTPC, IOC and L&T were the top gainers on Nifty 50, while Zee Entertainment, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra and Bharti Airtel were the main losers.
