Maruti Suzuki Lowered Vehicle Production By 18% In May
Maruti Suzuki India, the largest car maker in the country cut its vehicle production by 18 percent in the month of May, it said in a regulatory filing. This will be the company's fourth consecutive month of production cuts.
The car market leader produced as many as 1,51,188 units in May, including Super Carry LCV, which is 18.1 percent lower than 1,84,612 units recorded in the same month, a year ago.
Production in all segments, baring Super Carry was reduced. Production of passenger vehicles, including Alto, Swift and Dzire, was lowered by 18.88 percent to 1,48,095 as against 1,82,571 units in May 2018. As for the mini segment vehicles, a 42.29 percent cut in production was made to 23,874 units last month when compared to 41,373 units in the year-ago period.
Maruti Suzuki also slashed production of compact segment cars by 9.54 percent to 84,705 units in May from 93,641 units in corresponding month of last year.
In April, the auto-maker cut its production by around 10 percent across its factories. A production cut of 20.9 percent and over 8 percent was reported in the months of March and February, respectively.
Automobile makers, have been facing a fall in demand for quite some months now. Companies have been forced to adjust their production schedules to market demand.
