Govt. has now tread on a path to revive the auto industry, while at an earlier instance it was announced that only electric vehicles will find their way after 2030 in India, there has been made a proposal to do away with the registration proposal requirement in case of electric vehicles.

This is being mulled on so as to promote electric mobility in the country. And this shall become applicable for all forms of electric vehicles as there has been gaining a swift momentum around promoting cleaner mode of transport.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification in this regard for comment from stakeholders. "In order to give a boost to Battery-operated or electric vehicles in the country, the ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated steps for providing differential registration fees under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989," the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
And the proposal thus will work to amend Rule 81 of the CMVR, wherein the battery operated vehicles will be made exempt from paying the initial as well as the subsequent renewal charges and that paid for assignment of new registration mark.
On the sidelines, there also had been a proposal made to direct cab aggregators to convert 40% of their fleet to electric by 2026.
