April Fiscal Deficit Comes At 0.75% Of GDP

For the April month, the fiscal deficit came in at Rs. 1,57,048 crore i.e 22% of the estimated budget for the FY 2019-20, i.e. a tad lower than the figure that came in for the corresponding period a year ago. In terms of GDP, the fiscal deficit stood at 0.75%

In the interim budget, the figure had been seen at 3.4%. The number is determined taking into accounts of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) for the period April 2019. The receipts are able to provide for only 38% of the expenses. As per the figures of Review of Accounts for the April month, fiscal deficit and revenue deficit are at 0.75% and 0.61%, respectively.

For the first month of the Fy 2019-20, the total expenditure came in at Rs 254,679 crore or 9 percent of BE that includes revenue expenditure of Rs 224,091 crore - 9 percent of BE and capital expenditure of Rs 30,588 crore - 9 percent of BE.

Receipts came in at Rs. 97,631 crore - 5 percent of the BE. Gross tax and net tax to the Centre came in at Rs 121,190 crore and Rs 71,637 crore.
