CNG prices were hiked in the capital city of Delhi and its surrounding suburbs by around Re 1 per kg. This is the seventh increase in rates in 15 months.

Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the sole supplier of CNG to automobiles in the National Capital Region (NCR) said the increase in prices were on account of changes in transmission tariffs of gas pipeline.

CNG prices were raised by 90 paise per kg to Rs 46.60 in Delhi, while in the adjoining areas of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, there was a Re 1 per kg hike in rates to Rs 52.95.

In Rewari, Gurugram and Karnal in Haryana, CNG rates were raised by 95 paise. While prices in Rewari and Gurugram were increased to Rs 58.45 per kg, in Karnal it was revised to Rs 55.45/kg.

CNG prices have been hiked seven times since April 2018, when it was raised by Re 1 per kg on account of the rise in domestic natural gas prices and a fall in rupee value against the US dollar. Overall, the rates have been increased by Rs 6.89 per kg since April 2018.

Meanwhile, Indraprastha Gas Ltd did not increase prices of piped natural gas, used by households in the NCR for cooking purposes.

The company further said that it will continue to offer a discount of Rs 1.50 per kg on the selling prices of CNG sold at select outlets in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad between 12 am and 6 am.
