On Thursday, rupee opened higher by 9 paise at 68.82 per dollar as against previous session's closing of 68.91.

The rupee in the previous session ended with some gains on the back of steady equities market just ahead of Union Budget 2019.
Fiscal deficit target shall be watched for in the budget due to be presented by Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday. Also, there are expectations that government will not significantly bolster its spending due to its non-affordability.
Meanwhile, Indian equities opened almost flat, with the Nifty above 11,900 points and Sensex at at 39,887.60 at 9:17 am.
