The government will continue to put its focus on Affordable housing as was widely expected. In her maiden budget speech, Nirmala Sitharaman said that steps will be taken to support rental housing as the present laws administering it are archaic and do not provide for fair lessor-lessee relationship.
Budget 2019 To Continue Its Focus On Affordable Housing
The government has been consistently addressing the segment by so far providing infrastructure status to Affordable housing, re-defining income structure, increasing the carpet area etc and thus including more of beneficiaries in Credit linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
In the previous budget, boost to the segment was provided through the creation of a dedicated fund under the National Housing Bank (NHB). The fund will be provided for from priority sector lending and fully serviced bonds authorised by the Government of India.
