CBDT Clarifies On Changes In ITR Forms Says Only Utility Updated

There have been complaints doing rounds on social media that ITR forms for the assessment year have seen a series of changes this year and hence it is not possible for income tax payers to file their income tax return by the due date i.e. falling close (July 31, 2019).

CBDT Clarifies On Changes In ITR Forms Says Only Utility Updated

To this CBDT said, "no changes have been made in any of the Income Tax Return (ITR) forms including ITR-2 & ITR-3 since the notification made on 1st April 2019, i.e. on the 1st day of Assessment Year (AY) 2019-20." Further the department said that only utility to help the taxpayer is updated time and again. Software utility update is a dynamic process, done continuously based on the feedback received from users, to ease e-filing," it said.

And using the available utility as many as 85 lakh taxpayers have already filed their ITRs in ITR 1 form. And updation of software utility does not come in the way of successful ITR filing. . So, "the assertion that numerous changes have been made in ITR-2 and ITR-3 on July 11, 2019 does not give a correct picture. Also, the impression that the taxpayers are not able to file return due to changes in ITR form is also not correct as more than 1.38 crore taxpayers have already filed their returns by using the utility released till date," added the dept.

Also, herein it is noteworthy that though the updation of utility is made on a continuous basis, the previous utility that can be used for filing ITR also remains valid.
