Amid India-Pakistan Tensions, Thar Link Express Connecting To Karachi, Suspended

The Indian Railways has temporary cancelled services of Thar Link Express that helps commuters from India connect to Karachi in Pakistan. A PTI report said that the Thar Link Express would not undertake its journey scheduled for 17 August and the administration has initiated the process of cancellation of all the 45 tickets issued.

The directions were issued by the railway ministry to the North Western Railway on Friday, the report said citing officials.

Thar Link Express is a weekly train that departs from Jodhpur's Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station on Saturdays (around 1 am) and reach Munabao, the last station on the Indian side of the border, early in the morning. The passengers can then change their trains at the zero point on the international border with Pakistan, to go to Karachi.

Las Saturday, the services were undertaken as usual with 165 passengers. However, following the Pakistan government's decision to suspend bilateral trade ties with India, it also announced a suspension of all train services connecting to its neighbour.

The bi-weekly Lahore-Wagah Express (unofficially known as Samjhauta Express), the main rail link between the two hostile neighbours, was also suspended by Pakistan in the process. The following day, the Indian Railways announced suspension of its side of the route- officially known as the New Delhi-Attari Express.
