BS VI Fuel To Be Made Available In India From April 2020
On Tuesday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Bharat Stage (BS) VI fuel will be made available in India from 1 April 2020. Speaking to the media at an event in Jaipur, Javadekar said that BS-VI compliant vehicles will also be made available from the next year and that these initiatives will help "reduce pollution in the air by 80-90 percent."
The minister further informed that in a bid to reduce pollution under the National Clean Air Campaign, the Central Government had chalked out plans for about 122 cities and funds were also issued.
In October last year, the Supreme Court ruled that no BS-IV vehicles were to be sold in India starting 1 April 2020. Further, the BS-VI norm would be replacing it on the same day.
The new emission standard reduces sulphur content in the fuel and is expected to put a check on the pollutant levels emitted by vehicles that use combustion engines.
