Wholesale Inflation Falls In The Month Of September

Whole Price Index (WPI), that measures wholesale inflation, declined by 0.1 percent in September to 121.3 from 121.4 for the previous month. It stood at 0.33 percent for September when compared to 1.08 percent in August and 5.22 percent for the same month of the previous year, as per data released by the government on Monday.

WPI for the 'Food Articles' group fell by 0.4 percent to 155.3 from 155.9 in August. The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group declined by 2.5 percent to 126.7 in September from 129.9 in the previous month.

Fuel and power group experienced a 0.5 percent drop in the index to 100.2 from 100.7 in August.

Indian stock market indices were trading higher following the release of wholesale inflation data. BSE's Sensex was up by 209.16 points at 38,336.24 and NSE's Nifty 50 rose 65.45 points to 11,370.50.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) data is scheduled to release after market hours.
