Jio Adds Highest Number Of Users In August While Airtel, Vodafone Idea Lose Customers
Reliance Jio continued to grow its customer base in August after adding the highest number of subscribers for the month of August among the Indian telecom operators. Its competitors Airtel and Vodafone Idea saw an erosion in their customer base.
As per TRAI's (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) report, Jio added more than 8.4 million subscribers in August, witnessing the highest monthly growth rate of 2.49 percent when compared to other operators. The Mukesh Ambani-led company's total subscriber base now stands at 348 million.
Meanwhile, Bharati Airtel lost over 5 lakh subscribers reducing its customer base to 327 million and Vodafone Idea lost over 4.9 million subscribers dragging its subscriber base to 375 million.
State-owned operators BSNL and MTNL lost 2.15 lakh and 6.70 thousand subscribers, respectively.
The total number of wireless subscribers rose by 26.83 lakh to 117.10 crore in August.
"As on 31 August, 2019, the private access service providers held 89.78 per cent market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 10.22 percent," TRAI said in its report.
