On Friday, the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation released a press note on Employment Outlook of the country covering the period from September 2017 to November 2019.

The payroll report was compiled from the information on the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major government schemes, namely the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
The data showed that 23,47,649 new subscribers were added to these social schemes of which 8,67,963 were added to EPF, 14,33,000 to ESI and 46,686 to NPS.
The report said that "since the numbers of subscribers are from various sources, there are elements of overlap and the estimates are not additive."
"The present report gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector and does not measure employment at a holistic level," it added.
