7th CPC: Govt Increased Maximum Limit of Family Pension: Check New Rules

According to an official announcement, the Ministry of Defence has raised the maximum ceilings of two family pensions payable to a child or children for both parents, as per the Seventh Central Pay Commission (CPC). According to the ministry's announcement, the maximum pay in the government was amended to Rs 2.5 lakh per month following the seventh CPC.

The Defence Ministry has said in a statement that "regarding maximum ceiling limits of two Family Pensions payable to child/children in respect of the deceased parents and to say that the President is pleased to decide that ceiling of the aforesaid DoP&PW OM will apply mutatis-mutandis to Armed Forces Personnel and the ceiling limit mentioned in Regulation 72(b)(i) of Pension Regulations for the Army, Part-! (2008) shall stand revised to Rs. 75,000/- per month (i.e 30% of Rs. 2,50,000) and in Regulation 72(b)(ii) shall stand revised to Rs. 1,25,000/- per month (i.e. 50% of Rs.2,50,000) w.e.f. 01.01.2016, after 7thCPC."

On the other hand, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also released that "The highest pay in the Government has been revised to Rs 2,50,000/- p.m. after the 7th CPC. Accordingly, the Department of Pension &Pensioners' Welfare (DoP&PW) revised the maximum ceiling limits of two family pensions payable to a child/children in respect of both the parents to Rs. 1,25,000/- p.m. (50% of Rs. 2,50,000/- Ordinary Family Pension at enhanced rate) and Rs. 75,000/- p.m. (30% of Rs. 2,50,000/- Ordinary Family Pension) w.e.f. 01.01.2016. Ministry of Defence vide order dated 29.10.2021 has implemented the DoP&PW order mutatis mutandis in respect of Armed Forces Personnel w.e.f. 01.01.2016."

The above-said provisions will also apply to the Air Force & Navy Pensioners and Pension Regulations of Air Force and Navy may also be amended. All other terms and conditions on the subject matter shall remain unchanged, said the Ministry of Defence on 29th October 2021. The directive, which was issued on October 29, 2021, went into force on January 1, 2016, according to the announcement.
