Amid the Covid wave, the DA arrear for the period between 2020 and June 2021 has not been released. After two DA or dearness allowance hikes from July 2021, the current DA rate stands at 34%. Now for the arrear reportedly there is a clarification from the government that says that during the Covid period the DA was frozen and there is no option of arrear.

Secretary of National Council of JCM Shiv Gopal is cited as saying in a leading dailies report that it has been the centre's decision of freezing the dearness allowance.

Further he is reported to say that the loss that has been incurred due to the DA freeze should be made up for by the government. He says that on the 18 month arrear there are talks going on with the government and it must come up with a negotiated solution.

Against the inflation, government of India to the central government staffers pays DA every year twice or once in every six months.

Nevertheless while it has to come to light that government is unwilling to pay of the arrear amount, nonetheless if it decides to pay it, central government staffer shall get a lump sum amount for 18 month together with the 11% hike.
