Aadhaar Card Update: Know How To Change Your Address, Mobile Number, Other Demographic Details On Aadhaar Card

Many times it happens that people want to update their demographic details including name, address, date of birth, gender, and mobile number on their Aadhaar Card, but they don't know how to do it. It is also worth mentioning that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) charges a fee of Rs 50 for Aadhaar card update. However, the government had made this service free of cost till September 14. This means that now if you update your Aadhaar Card you might have to pay a fee of Rs 50, unless there is an extension to September 14 deadline.

Earlier, this free service was available till June 14, but then it was extended by three months.

Step-By-Step Guide On How To Update Aadhaar Card Online

  • Visit the MyAadhaar portal or the official Aadhaar website (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in)
  • Click on "Login" and fill in your Aadhaar card number and captcha
  • Click on "Generate OTP"
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered phone number
  • If you want to update your address, Select "Address Update" and then "Update Aadhaar online"
  • Tap on the category you want to update: name, date of birth, gender, address
  • Now proceed to upload the required documents as proof
  • Once you have finished the process, a 14-digit Update Application Number (URN) will be created
  • You can track your Aadhaar card update status with the help of the URN that you will receive on your registered mobile number via SMS.

Recently, UIDAI said via a post on X (Earlier Twitter), that the government never asks for Proof of Identity or Proof of Address documents through WhatsApp or email for an Aadhaar card update.

The tweet read: "#BewareOfFraudsters UIDAI never asks you to share your POI/ POA documents to update your #Aadhaar over Email or WhatsApp. Update your Aadhaar either online through #myAadhaarPortal or visit Aadhaar centers near you."
