AatmaNirbhar Bharat: Amazon India to Start Electronic Devices Manufacturing in India

Amazon India on Tuesday announced that it is to start manufacturing of Amazon Fire TV stick from India. The move came after PM Narendra Modi emphasized the promotion of local artists and enterprises under the AatmaNirbhar Bharat scheme.

Minister proposed that Amazon India should take goods made by Indian craftsmen and Ayurvedic products to global markets via the eCommerce website.

A virtual meeting with Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President of Amazon and Country Head for India, was held today by the Union Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Communications and Law &Justice. This meeting addressed a number of topics relating to the digital market.

Speaking on the occasion Shri. Ravi Shankar Prasad, said "India is an attractive investment destination and is poised to become a major player in the global supply chain in the electronics and IT products industry. Our Government's decision to launch a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has received a tremendous response globally."

We support the decision by Amazon to set up a production line in Chennai, as it will increase domestic production capacity and also build jobs, he added.

This step will further help the mission of creating a digitally empowered AatmaNirbhar Bharat. Amazon will commence its manufacturing efforts with contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn in Chennai and start production later this year.

IT Minister wrote on Koo- "Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, electronics manufacturing in India has recently attracted some of the biggest investments from global giants. Happy to share Amazon India is the latest to join this success story of India."

In order to promote the manufacture of electronics in India, India has taken many key steps. With several foreign companies beginning production of electronics products from India, the Production Related Manufacturing (PLI) for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has emerged as a big success.
Amazon's entry into this field contributes to India's prosperous electronics manufacturing story.

"Amazon is a global company but Amazon India must evolve as a truly India company deeply connected with Indian business community and culture," the Union Minister said.
