Abhishek Lodha Takes Legal Action Against Brother Over Use of 'Lodha' Brand Name

Macrotech Developers Ltd, led by Abhishek Lodha, has initiated legal proceedings against House of Abhinandan Lodha. The dispute centres on the use of the Lodha brand name in property marketing. Abhishek asserts that the Lodha brand has been developed over 40 years, with Rs 1,700 crore invested in branding in the last decade alone.

Abhishek Lodha Sues Brother Over Brand Name

The Lodha Group's reputation is significant, with domestic property sales reaching Rs 91,000 crore over ten years. The brand is well-known in India and internationally for its quality and scale. Macrotech's lawsuit, filed in the Bombay High Court, highlights the extensive efforts and resources dedicated to building this brand.

Brand Protection and Family Settlement

The Lodha brothers, sons of BJP leader Mangal Prabhat Lodha, had a family settlement in 2015. Abhinandan established House of Abhinandan Lodha after leaving Macrotech Developers. A spokesperson for Macrotech emphasised the importance of protecting their intellectual property rights to prevent confusion with other developers.

House of Abhinandan Lodha's spokesperson claimed that Macrotech struggles to accept their success. They stated that the family agreed not to use the Lodha name independently in real estate. As part of the settlement, Abhinandan received Lodha Ventures and Lodha FinServ.

Financial Support and Legal Proceedings

Abhinandan's company spokesperson mentioned his past support for Macrotech, including lending Rs 900 crore through an NBFC. He also provided corporate and personal guarantees and mortgaged his flat to raise funds for the family. When asked about a deadline for using the Lodha name, they declined to comment on private agreements.

The case is scheduled for a hearing before Justice Manish Pitale on Tuesday. Both parties are preparing to present their arguments in court as they navigate this complex family and business dispute.

The outcome of this legal battle will have implications for both companies' branding strategies and could set a precedent for similar cases in the future.
