Battery energy storage plans: Adani Green Energy targets up to 15,000 GWh a year

Adani Green Energy Ltd says it plans to add 10,000–15,000 GWh of battery energy storage capacity each year, requiring investments worth thousands of crores. The company also expects about 3 GWh of operational BESS capacity soon and has 10 GWh planned for the current financial year, executives said in New Delhi.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) said it planned to scale up battery energy storage additions sharply. The company aimed to add 10,000 to 15,000 gigawatt hours each year. AGEL said this would need investments worth thousands of crores. The plan added to the 10 GWh of battery storage slated for the current financial year.

Adani Green targets 15,000 GWh

AGEL Executive Director Sagar Adani told a Delhi event that operational capacity was rising soon. AGEL expected about 3 gigawatt hours of installed BESS capacity shortly. Sagar Adani said, "As a group, just as us alone, shortly in the next couple of days, well have about three gigawatt hours of installed BESS capacity. That makes it one of the largest installed capacities anywhere in the world,\"

Adani Green Energy battery energy storage plans and yearly targets

At the Resilient Futures Summit by Economist Enterprise, Sagar Adani said AGEL had an internal roadmap. The company planned to add between 10,000 and 15,000 gigawatt hours each year. No timeline was shared for this yearly pace. AGEL also had a separate 10 GWh plan for the current financial year.

In an investor presentation, Sagar Adani said, \"We AGEL are in the process of very significantly ramping up our capacity addition for batteries, which we expect to commission north of 10 GWh, in this fiscal.\" AGEL linked the push to the need for steady clean power. The company referred to India’s broader energy transition.

Adani Green Energy battery energy storage investment and FY plans

AGEL planned to invest about Rs 15,000 crore in the current financial year. The company aimed to add more than 10 gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage capacity. AGEL said the move supported reliable and dispatchable clean power. It also aligned with rising power needs as India added more renewables.

AGEL said the new capacity would be above the roughly 3 GWh expected soon. The company said this followed the commissioning of 1.4 GWh during FY26. AGEL shared the details during the post-earnings call. The company also said its broader storage build would require large funding.

Adani Green Energy battery energy storage use case and grid demand

Sagar Adani explained why batteries mattered as solar capacity rose. Solar panels often generate together during sunny periods. Sagar Adani said the grid may not need power then. The company said batteries could store energy instead of sending it at once. Sagar Adani said energy storage was inevitable in India.

AGEL said the battery systems were being developed with renewable generation at Khavda in Gujarat. The company was building a large renewable energy park there. AGEL said the storage aimed to supply electricity during peak evening demand. It said this would help smooth load profiles and support round-the-clock renewable energy.
