Mundra Port Sets Record with Arrival of Largest Container Ship MSC Anna

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) announced a significant achievement at its flagship Mundra Port, marking a new milestone in India's maritime history. On May 26, the port welcomed the MSC Anna, setting a record as the largest container ship to ever dock at an Indian port. This event underscores Mundra Port's leading position in the maritime industry and highlights its capability to handle mega vessels.

Mundra Port Welcomes Record-Breaking MSC Anna

The MSC Anna is an impressive vessel, boasting an overall length of 399.98 meters, equivalent to the length of four football fields. With a capacity of 19,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), it stands as the largest container ship by capacity to have visited an Indian port. The ship's arrival draft of 16.3 meters is noteworthy, as Mundra Port is the only port in India equipped to berth such a deep-draft vessel.

Breaking Records

In July 2023, Mundra Port achieved another feat by berthing the MV MSC Hamburg, one of the world's longest container ships, measuring 399 meters in length and with a capacity of 16,652 TEUs. Additionally, APSEZ highlighted that its container terminal CT-3 reached an unprecedented milestone by being the first in India to handle 3 million TEUs in a year. November saw the terminal breaking a monthly handling record with over 300,000 TEUs, the highest ever by any terminal in the country.

A Testament to Mundra Port's Capabilities

The arrival of MSC Anna at Mundra Port not only sets a new benchmark for maritime achievements in India but also demonstrates the port's advanced infrastructure and capability to accommodate mega vessels. This achievement is a reflection of APSEZ's commitment to enhancing India's maritime infrastructure and its position in the global shipping industry. As part of the globally diversified Adani Group, APSEZ continues to contribute significantly to India's growth as a major maritime nation.

The record-breaking events at Mundra Port signify India's growing prominence in global maritime logistics and its readiness to handle the increasing demands of international trade. With its strategic location and state-of-the-art facilities, Mundra Port is well-positioned to continue setting new records and facilitating economic growth.
