Adani Power has secured a contract to provide 1,500 MW of electricity to Uttar Pradesh. This will be achieved through a new ultra-supercritical power plant in the state, requiring an investment of USD 2 billion. The Uttar Pradesh cabinet had approved this project earlier in the month. A long-term power supply agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) will soon be signed under the Letter of Award received.

The company emerged victorious in a competitive bid to deliver 1,500 MW of thermal power to the state. The power will be supplied at a rate of Rs 5.383 per unit from a greenfield 2x800 MW ultra-supercritical power plant. This plant will be established under the design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) model.
Adani Power's Strategic Expansion
S B Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, expressed satisfaction with winning the bid. "We are happy to have won the competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW power to UP state and feel privileged to play a leading role in meeting the state's rapidly growing power demand. We plan to set up a modern and low emission ultra-supercritical plant in UP and aim to begin supplying reliable and high-quality power by FY30," he stated.
The project is expected to create employment opportunities for 8,000-9,000 people during construction and around 2,000 once operational. This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to address future power needs as thermal power demand in Uttar Pradesh is projected to rise by 11,000 MW by 2033-34 due to industrialisation and urbanisation.
Adani Power's Growing Portfolio
This recent win marks Adani Power's second major Power Supply Agreement (PSA) bid success within a year. Previously, they secured a composite 6,600 MW contract from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd in September 2024. This included 1,600 MW thermal and 5,000 MW solar capacity, which has since been converted into a PSA.
Adani Power is part of the Adani portfolio and boasts an installed thermal power capacity of 17,510 MW across eleven plants in various Indian states. These include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, they operate a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
The company's investment of USD 2 billion will cover both the plant setup and related infrastructure development. This move demonstrates Adani Power's commitment to expanding its energy footprint while contributing significantly to Uttar Pradesh's energy requirements.
