The market reaction came after a US federal judge approved the Justice Department's request to dismiss the criminal case involving Gautam Adani and other defendants. The decision removes an important source of uncertainty that had weighed on investor sentiment around the conglomerate.

The legal development is particularly significant for Adani Group because the US case had attracted considerable global attention and raised questions around the group's regulatory and governance risks.

Why Are Adani Shares Rising Today?

The immediate trigger for the rise in Adani stocks is the dismissal of the US criminal proceedings. Investors had been closely tracking the case since Gautam Adani was indicted in 2024 over allegations connected with an alleged bribery arrangement involving Indian officials and a large solar power project.

US prosecutors had also alleged that investors were misled about anti-corruption practices at companies linked to the project. Adani Group strongly rejected the allegations and maintained that the claims were baseless.

With the US court now approving the dismissal, investors appear to be reassessing the potential impact of the case on the group's listed companies.

US Court Dismisses Gautam Adani Case: Know What Happened?

Brooklyn-based US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis approved prosecutors' request to end the case on Monday. The judge had earlier sought further clarification from the Justice Department and questioned Gautam Adani about whether any arrangement had been reached in connection with the decision to drop the charges.

The Justice Department had announced in May that it would no longer pursue the prosecution. A subsequent court filing in July said the case was largely foreign in nature, difficult to prove and inconsistent with the department's current priorities.

The department ultimately decided that it would not allocate additional resources to pursue the criminal charges against the individual defendants.

What Was US Case Against Adani About?

The case dated back to 2024, when US prosecutors accused Gautam Adani and others of being involved in an alleged bribery scheme intended to help an Adani Group subsidiary secure approvals for a major solar power project.

The allegations were connected to Adani Green Energy and another company involved in a proposed plan to supply up to 12 gigawatts of solar power to the Indian government. Adani Group consistently denied any wrongdoing. Gautam Adani was also never brought before a US court to face the charges.
