Starting September 30, Russian flag carrier Aeroflot will resume its direct flight services to Goa and Delhi from Moscow. The flights are expected to be in high demand due to the popularity of south India as a holiday destination for Russians during fall and winter.
As a significant development in the aviation sector, Russian flag carrier Aeroflot has announced the resumption of its direct flight services to Goa from Moscow and Ekaterinburg starting September 30. This move will mark a significant step in re-establishing air connectivity between Russia and India amid easing travel restrictions.
Aeroflot Resumes Operations

The airline, in an official statement, confirmed that these services will be operated to Goa's Dabolim International Airport. In addition to Goa, Aeroflot is also set to operate direct flights from Moscow to Delhi. The decision comes as part of a bilateral agreement between India and Russia aimed at reviving international travel impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schedule and Aircraft Details
According to Aeroflot's announcement, starting from September 30, three weekly flights from Sheremetyevo airport will be operated on wide-body Airbus A330 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Furthermore, beginning October 3, three weekly flights from Ekaterinburg will be operated on Boeing 737-800 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Benefitting Cargo Demand & Tourism Industry
Karpov Dmitry, Head of Cargo Department at Aeroflot Russian Airlines highlighted that these flights operating on A330 aircrafts to Moscow would cater significantly towards cargo demand emanating from the western side of India. He further pointed out that domestic Indian airlines stand poised for benefits as feeder carriers due to this operation. Additionally noteworthy is the role road transport would play for custom bonded cargo transportation originating from Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
In terms of tourism industry implications; traditionally south India remains a favourite destination for beach holidays amongst Russians during fall and winter seasons. As such with this resumption of operations by Aeroflot; it anticipates high demand for these flights. This in turn could provide a much needed boost to the local tourism industry which has witnessed significant downturn due to the pandemic.
Capacity and Expectations
The Aeroflot flights are expected to carry approximately 15 tons of cargo, thereby contributing significantly towards fulfilling India's export requirements. The resumption of these services not only strengthens bilateral ties between India and Russia but also paves way for economic recovery by re-establishing trade routes and boosting tourism.
In conclusion, Aeroflot's decision to resume direct flight operations from Moscow and Ekaterinburg to Goa and Delhi is an encouraging development that promises benefits on multiple fronts. It will help revive the struggling aviation sector, assist in meeting cargo demands, stimulate local economies through increased tourism activities, and strengthen diplomatic relations between India and Russia. As we navigate through unprecedented times brought about by the global pandemic; this move marks a positive step forward towards restoring normalcy in international travel.
