After A Merge Of 8 PSBs In The Last Two years, Know All About Your Cheque Book Validity

If you are a customer of Dena Bank, Vijaya Bank, Corporation Bank, Andhra Bank, Syndicate Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, United Bank of India, or Allahabad Bank which are merged in the last 2 years, then it's the right time to take some steps to keep your bank account active. These banks' account holders will need to get a new cheque book and passbook since the existing ones will expire soon. These banks' customers must be aware that their account number, IFSC, MICR code, and branch address will change as well. The current cheque book, however, will be effective until June 30, 2021, according to a tweet from Punjab National Bank. Customers of any of these banks will need to update their contact details, such as their mobile number, address, nominee, and so on, in order to receive all important information and alerts via SMS or email.

Customers of Bank of Baroda have been alerted not to believe misinformation, and that the cheques of the former Vijaya and Dena banks will be accepted and legitimate in their banking network. They were also instructed by the bank to request a new cheque book with MICR code whenever it was convenient for them. On March 15, the Bank of Baroda tweeted that "Dear customers, please note that the cheques of erstwhile Vijaya and Dena bank are acceptable and valid in our banking system. Please do not fall prey to any rumours. A new cheque book with MICR code may be requested by the customers at their convenience. Thank you."

PNB also recently said in a tweet that "Please get a new PMN Cheque book issued through the branch, internet banking, mobile banking or ATM. The bank said that the customers of these banks should make a note that their cheques will remain valid only up to 30th June 2021."

Since the Reserve Bank of India has permitted some banks to continue using old cheque books for another quarter or two, some banks may be able to give customers more time. Customers of Syndicate Bank, for instance, can use their cheque books until June 30. On April 1, 2019, Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank merged with Bank of Baroda, whereas the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and United Bank of India merged with Punjab National Bank last year (1 April 2020). In addition, Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank have merged, while Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank have merged with Union Bank of India, and Allahabad Bank has merged with Indian Bank.
