Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash: In a shocking turn of events, an Air India plane, carrying 242 souls, crashed in the afternoon of Thursday, June 12, right after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The plane crashed right outside the airport, which pushed the Adani Group-backed airport to shut down its operations for several hours. In the latest update, the airport is now operational, however, it advised passengers to check with their flights for the latest information.

Ahmedabad Airport:

Through its X handler, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport said, "All flight operations at Ahmedabad Airport have resumed," adding, "For the latest flight information, please stay connected with your airline and our official updates."

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Update on Air India Plane Crash:

In its media statement, an SVPIA spokesperson said, "Flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, earlier today, was involved in a crash shortly after takeoff, outside the airport."

Following the incident, the airport had suspended its operations on a temporary basis, to clear traffic for rescue operations.


Air India Plane Crash:

According to the update from Air India, the airline confirmed that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident on Thursday, after take-off.

The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals, it said.

"The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals," Air India added.


The dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information. It said, Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident.

From the latest update, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik briefed the media that it appears there are no survivors in the plane crash. However, Malik revealed that they have found one survivor from seat 11A. The police has issued list of 25 injured passengers in the plane crash. They retrieved 204 bodies and 41 injured passengers from the crashed plane.

Among the souls, former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was believed to be onboard the AIR India flight AI171.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief and shock over the tragic incident in Ahmedabad today. He stated that the tragedy has stunned and saddened the nation and described it as heartbreaking beyond words.

Modi said that he has been in continuous communication with Ministers and relevant authorities to ensure swift and effective assistance to those impacted.

"The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected," Modi added.

The investigation of the flight is likely to commence in due course.
