AIESL Aircraft Technicians Announce Strike on April 23 for Better Conditions

Aircraft technicians from AI Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL), a state-owned entity, have announced a strike on April 23. This move comes as a demand for the resolution of various grievances, including issues related to promotion, salary, and uniform standards. The All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union (AIAMEU) has reached out to AIESL's CEO and CHRO, urging immediate action to address these concerns.

AIESL Technicians Plan April 23 Strike

AIESL stands as a prominent figure in the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector. The union, representing approximately 1,000 members of the Fixed Term Employment (FTE) staff, has voiced its dissatisfaction. A recent shift to a new Service Level Agreement (SLA) has highlighted stark differences in treatment between permanent and FTE staff, particularly in terms of notice periods and benefits.

The union's letter to AIESL management outlined several key issues. It pointed out the absence of promotions for nearly seven years since some staff members joined the company. Additionally, it highlighted overdue salary revisions and unilateral changes to uniform policies that were made without prior consultation or consent. These changes have led to disparities in uniform color and quality, fostering a sense of division and making FTE staff feel insecure, undervalued, and marginalized.

In their communication, the union has not only called for a strike but also urged AIESL management to engage in constructive dialogue. They hope such discussions will lead to immediate steps being taken to address their grievances in good faith and prevent any disruption to operations. AIESL employs over 5,000 staff and offers a range of services including base and line maintenance as well as overhaul of landing gear, avionics accessories, and components. Following the disinvestment of Air India in 2022, AIESL now operates under AI Assets Holding Ltd.

The call for a strike by AIESL's aircraft technicians underscores the pressing need for dialogue between management and staff to resolve longstanding issues. As the date approaches, all eyes will be on how both parties navigate these challenges to find a resolution that ensures fairness and equity for all employees involved.
