Air India and IndiGo Suspend Flights to Dhaka Following Political Unrest

Air India and IndiGo have cancelled their flights to and from Dhaka immediately due to the current situation following Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid significant anti-government protests. A Vistara official mentioned that a flight from Mumbai operated on Monday, and they are monitoring the situation for Tuesday's operations to Dhaka.

Flights to Dhaka Halted Amid Unrest

IndiGo has also cancelled all flights scheduled for tomorrow due to the ongoing situation in Dhaka. "We understand that this may cause significant inconvenience and disruption to your travel plans, and we sincerely regret this development," IndiGo stated in a post on X.

Flight Operations Affected

Air India operates two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka, while Vistara runs daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to the Bangladesh capital. IndiGo flies to Dhaka from several Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. However, the exact number of flights operated by IndiGo could not be immediately determined.

An Air India spokesperson said on Monday, "In view of the emerging situation in Bangladesh, we have cancelled the scheduled operation of our flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Dhaka with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges."

Monitoring the Situation

Vistara is closely observing the developments in Bangladesh. They managed to operate a flight from Mumbai on Monday but are yet to decide on Tuesday's operations. The airline is taking necessary precautions to ensure passenger safety and convenience.

In Dhaka, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed that Sheikh Hasina has resigned, and an interim government is now assuming responsibilities. This political shift has led to significant disruptions in flight schedules as airlines respond to the evolving scenario.

The sudden changes in flight operations have caused considerable inconvenience for passengers. Airlines are offering support through waivers on rescheduling and cancellation fees to mitigate the impact on travellers.

The situation remains fluid, with airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara keeping a close watch on further developments. Passengers are advised to stay updated with their respective airlines for any changes in flight schedules.

The current political unrest in Bangladesh has led to immediate actions by airlines operating between India and Dhaka. These measures aim to ensure passenger safety while adapting to the rapidly changing circumstances.
