Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet Flights Ticket Prices To Fall? 25% Cut Declared On Flight Landing, Parking Charges

The Indian airlines get much-needed relief on April 8 amidst the unprecedented situation arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis, which has imposed extreme challenges for the global aviation industry. Indian airlines also faced heavy impact with flight cancellations, a slowdown in demand, and a significant hike in aviation fuel.

To make flying affordable, the Aviation Ministry on Wednesday announced a 25% cut on flights parking and landing charges. The ministry directed the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA) to implement the changes immediately.

25 Cut On Flights Landing & Parking Charges:

"Now, with the ultimate aim of supporting airlines and, in turn, passengers, airfare increases are being further contained by reducing landing and parking charges levied by airport operators," said Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu on April 8.

This new announcement is part of the ministry's overall effort to keep the aviation sector stable during this volatile period and to ensure ease of flying for passengers.

According to the minister, this is a significant intervention to provide relief to airlines grappling with increasing operational costs.

He said, "We are in constant touch with all stakeholders, including airlines, airport operators, and the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA), in this regard."

AERA To Reduce Landing & Parking Charges By 25% Immediately

The ministry has already issued directions to lower the landing and parking charges by 25% from the prevailing tariff at all major airports under its purview.

The 25% cut is effective immediately for all domestic flights. However, this development is applicable only for a period of 3 months.

"The AERA has issued an order to this effect, stating that any under-recovery by individual airports shall be adjusted during tariff determination in the next control period of five years," said the government's notice.

Along the similar lines, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is also directed to cut landing and parking charges at all its non-major airports by 25% of the approved rate. This reduction for all domestic flights will also remain applicable for a period of three months.

The government expects decline of Rs 400 crore due to the 25% cut on landing and parking charges payable by airlines.

It said, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is keeping a close watch on the evolving situation, and further necessary measures will be taken to ensure the viability of air operations, as well as safe and affordable nbair travel for passengers.

ATF Prices Hike:

Due to the ongoing Middle East crisis, Indian airlines has taken significant hit. However, the ministry assures that Indian domestic aviation sector continues to remain resilient and robust, supported by timely and calibrated interventions by the government.

Among various measures to ease impact for airlines, the government had earlier decided to pass only a partial ATF price hike, capping the increase for domestic airlines at 25% only for domestic operations.

Naidu, expressed, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the primary focus of the Government in the aviation sector has been to make flying a more affordable and convenient travel option for passengers."

He further said, "Even in the prevailing challenging situation, when global air operations are impacted, we have ensured that cancellations and rising fuel costs do not severely affect the operations of our domestic carriers. While ATF costs globally have risen by more than 100%, we have passed on only a moderated increase capped at 25%."

Notably, for the April 2026, the oil marketing companies have more than doubled the price of jet fuel to a record high of over 2,07,341.22 lakh per kL from April 1 Rs 2.07 lakh per kiloliter.

For the first time ever, the price of aviation turbine fuel has crossed Rs 2 lakh mark. With approximately a 115% hike, the ATF is priced at Rs 2,07,341.22 lakh per kL in Delhi with effect from April 1, for non-scheduled carriers and charters. In the previous month, the price stood at Rs 96,638 per kL in the national capital.

The highest increase was done in Chennai with ATF costing at Rs 214,597.66/KL, registering a surge of Rs 114,317.17 from the previous month's price of Rs 100,280.49.

This pushed Indian airlines to hike airfares. Both Air India and Indigo have revised their fuel surcharge on domestic and international routes, which impacts airfares eventually.

However, the cut in landing and parking charges could offer relief in ticket prices.
