Air India SATS has commenced domestic cargo handling at Raipur's Swami Vivekananda Airport. This initiative aims to enhance India's air freight capabilities and position Raipur as a vital logistics hub.
Air India SATS Airport Services has begun handling domestic cargo at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur. As the official Operator & Management service provider, AISATS aims to deliver international-standard cargo solutions. This initiative is expected to position Raipur as a strategic hub in India's expanding air freight network.

The Indian air freight market is anticipated to grow significantly, reaching USD 17.22 billion by 2028. This growth is projected at a compound annual growth rate of 5.65 per cent. AISATS, a joint venture between Air India and Singapore's SATS, plans to leverage this growth by enhancing its cargo services.
Strategic Location and Growth Potential
Raipur's central location makes it an ideal cargo gateway for regional industries. The airport handled around 5,079 tonnes of cargo in FY 2024-25, marking a 2.3 per cent increase. This growth highlights the rising demand and untapped potential in the region, according to Ramanathan Rajamani, CEO at AISATS.
The facility will incorporate workforce planning, real-time cargo tracking, and digitised documentation processes. These features aim to speed up freight movement, reduce dwell times, and enhance operational predictability.
Diverse Cargo Handling Capabilities
AISATS is equipped to manage various types of cargo, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, high-value goods, and industrial machinery. This capability will provide Chhattisgarh's industries with faster access and seamless connectivity to both national and international trade hubs.
"Raipur's central location offers immense potential to become a key cargo gateway for regional industries," said Ramanathan Rajamani. The strategic positioning of Raipur is expected to benefit the local economy by improving trade connectivity.
The joint venture between Air India and SATS brings 15 years of expertise in air cargo management. This experience will help AISATS deliver internationally benchmarked solutions to India's supply chain.
In summary, AISATS' new operations at Raipur aim to enhance India's air freight capabilities. By leveraging advanced technology and strategic location, the company seeks to meet the growing demand for efficient cargo handling services.
