Air India Slams Viral "All International Flights Cancelled Till July" Rumour: Here's What's Really Happening

Putting an end to speculations, Air India has officially released a statement debunking the viral social media posts claiming that Air India has cancelled all international flights until July due to fuel shortages.

Air India Slams Viral

The rumour falsely alleged that Air India had suspended all overseas operations because of fuel supply issues and rising operational stress. However, Air India's official newsroom account on X, clarified that the viral post was completely fabricated.

In its official statement, the airline said, " Malicious and fabricated claims circulating on certain platforms alleging that Air India has cancelled all international flights are completely false and baseless.

The airline also urged passengers to rely only on official Air India communication channels for accurate updates regarding flights and travel schedules.

How The Air India Flight Cancellation Rumour Started?

The confusion appears to have started from real reports suggesting that Air India would temporarily reduce some international operations during June and July 2026 due to rising jet fuel prices and geopolitical disruptions due to US-Iran impacting aviation routes globally.

However, social media users exaggerated the development into a false narrative claiming that all international flights had been cancelled.

The misinformation gained traction quickly because several genuine aviation disruptions are currently affecting the west Asia region. Despite this, there has been no blanket cancellation of all Air India international flights.

What Air India Has Actually Announced

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson reportedly confirmed internally that the airline plans to reduce long-haul international operations by around 10% to 12% through July 2026 as per teh PTI report.

The airline cited soaring aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and longer flight routes caused by restricted airspace in parts of West Asia as the main reasons behind the operational changes.

One of the biggest reasons behind the temporary reductions is the sharp rise in global aviation fuel prices. Aviation Turbine Fuel prices have reportedly surged nearly 34% year-on-year amid fears of supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz due to the escalating West Asia crisis.

According to reports, rerouting flights around closed Iranian and Iraqi airspace is increasing flight duration on several Europe-Asia routes by nearly two hours, significantly increasing operational costs.

Out of more than 1,000 daily Air India flights, roughly 100 flights could face temporary reductions, rescheduling or selective cancellations over the next few months.

Which Air India International Routes Could Be Affected?

Several major international sectors are expected to see reduced frequency as part of the temporary operational adjustment.

Routes including London, Frankfurt, Paris, New York, Toronto, Sydney and Melbourne are reportedly among the most impacted. Some sectors, such as Delhi-Vienna and Mumbai-Osaka, have allegedly been temporarily suspended, while routes to Frankfurt, Chicago, Vancouver, Melbourne and Singapore could witness frequency cuts ranging between 15% and 30%.

However, these are selective operational reductions and not a complete shutdown of Air India's international network.
