Airtel's Nxtra Plans Rs 5,000 Crore Investment to Double Data Centre Capacity Using AI

Bharti Airtel's data centre division, Nxtra, has announced plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore to expand its capacity to approximately 400 megawatts within the next three years. This investment aligns with the company's earlier goal of reaching this capacity by 2025.

Nxtra to Invest Rs 5,000 Crore for Capacity Growth

Nxtra has become a pioneer in India by integrating artificial intelligence into its data centres. This technology aims to enhance capabilities such as predictive maintenance, operational efficiency, and capital expenditure optimisation. The AI-driven approach is expected to streamline operations and improve energy efficiency.

AI Integration and Efficiency Goals

The company has implemented Ecolibrium's AI-powered SmartSense platform at its Chennai data centre. Nxtra plans to extend these capabilities across all its primary data centres. This deployment is anticipated to increase asset life by 10% through real-time analytics that detect early signs of wear and provide corrective measures.

Additionally, Nxtra aims for a 10% reduction in non-IT power consumption by identifying deviations and energy losses early in each piece of equipment. The AI technology is expected to boost equipment performance by 15% using Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) algorithms and preventative maintenance strategies.

Productivity and Performance Enhancements

By implementing AI technology, Nxtra anticipates a 25% improvement in productivity. This will be achieved through intelligent insights that proactively manage all data centre operations. The integration of AI is set to transform how the company manages its facilities, ensuring enhanced performance and efficiency.

Nxtra CEO Ashish Arora stated, "The company will make a Rs 5,000 crore investment over the next three years to double the Nxtra capacity to around 400 megawatt." This significant investment underscores Nxtra's commitment to expanding its infrastructure and capabilities.

The strategic use of AI in data centres marks a significant step for Nxtra. By leveraging advanced technologies, the company aims to optimise its operations while reducing costs and improving service delivery. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving data centre industry.
