Akasa Air Pilots Express Concerns Over Alleged Training and Safety Issues Amid Resignations

Some Akasa Air pilots have expressed concerns over alleged training and safety issues at the airline, prompting them to seek intervention from the civil aviation ministry. The airline, however, has dismissed these claims as false. Akasa Air, operational for over two years, previously faced pilot-related challenges. This time, a group of pilots claims that 84 pilots resigned with just one day's notice.

Akasa Air Pilots Raise Safety Concerns

Akasa Air strongly refuted these allegations, stating they are unfounded and do not reflect the views of its pilots. "We categorically deny these allegations as baseless and untrue. Nor do they represent the views of Akasa pilots," an airline spokesperson stated on Saturday. The airline also highlighted that since October 2023, 324 pilots have joined, with an annualised attrition rate of less than 1% among this group.

Pilot Satisfaction and Allegations

In a letter dated December 11, a section of the pilots requested Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu to initiate an independent investigation into the airline's management practices, training methods, and safety standards. Akasa Air countered these allegations by stating that its monthly employee surveys consistently show high job satisfaction levels among pilots, indicating a supportive work culture.

The airline further emphasised that throughout 2024, very few pilots have sought opportunities outside Akasa Air. This dedication reflects the effectiveness of their supportive environment. Despite these assurances, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined Akasa Air Rs 30 lakh in October for certain crew training lapses.

Fleet and Operations

Akasa Air operates a fleet of 26 aircraft and serves 27 destinations, including five international cities. The airline continues to expand its operations while addressing internal challenges. The recent pilot resignations and allegations have brought attention to its management practices and safety protocols.

The ongoing situation highlights the need for transparency and effective communication between the airline's management and its employees. As Akasa Air navigates these challenges, maintaining trust and ensuring safety remain paramount for its continued success in the aviation industry.
