Amazon India Head Manish Tiwary Resigns

In an abrupt development, the India chief of US e-commerce giant Amazon, resigned the e-commerce giant. He served Amazon for nearly eight years. However, Tiwary will continue with Amazon until October to help ensure a smooth transition, according to a report published in ET Now.

It is not likely that Amazon will appoint an immediate replacement of Tiwary. The existing team of leaders will work closely Amit Agarwal, SVP for emerging markets at Amazon.

Manish Tiwary

Tiwary's resignation has come at a time when Amazon India reportedly lost its grip on some specific crucial markets and top categories in terms of market share. Within this, several senior executives including Gaurav Arora and Suresh John joined its rival company- Flipkart in last few months, while others opted to join consumer internet firms in India, added the ET Now report.

Earlier, Amazon launched a huge top-level restructuring of its India management team under Tiwary. According to an ET report, the move will lead to a new dual leadership structure at the online retailer led by Tiwary and Agarwal.

Additionally, earlier this year in May the US parent of Amazon Seller Services invested Rs 1,660 crore ($199 million) in the company that runs the Amazon marketplace in India. In February, the marketplace firm obtained a funding boost of Rs 830 crore, and in January, Amazon invested Rs 350 crore in the company that runs its fintech unit, Amazon Pay, demonstrating Amazon's commitment to India.

Tiwari joined Amazon India in 2016 after a long and successful career with Unilever. Manish has approximately 20 years of experience with Unilever in different sales, marketing, and general management positions. He served on the Unilever (India) Board of Directors, specifically in charge of South Asian sales, ET Now reported.
His latest position was as Managing Director of Unilever (Gulf), where he oversaw a cluster of 34 North African and Middle Eastern nations based in Dubai, according to Amazon's official website. Manish has a management degree from the Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore) and a bachelor's degree in computer science from BITS.
