Amazon Now quick commerce expands to 300 Indian cities during Andy Jassy visit

Amazon plans to expand Amazon Now to more than 300 Indian cities, scaling its ultra-fast delivery and micro-fulfilment network. The company says order volumes have doubled each quarter since launch, making it a fast-growing India business. Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy visited a Mumbai site and met Indian leaders to discuss AI and innovation.

Amazon said it planned to extend Amazon Now to more than 300 Indian cities. The company called this a plan to build the country’s largest delivery-in-minutes network. The push came as Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy visited India. Amazon said the move increased competition in India’s fast-growing quick-commerce market.

Amazon Now expands across India

Amazon said Amazon Now was its fastest-growing business in India. The company said order volumes had doubled every quarter since launch. Amazon Now currently served over 50 million customers. It operated in more than 15 metro and non-metro cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Kochi.

Amazon Now expansion plan in India

Andy Jassy visited an Amazon Now micro-fulfilment centre in Mumbai early Wednesday, Amazon said. The company planned to scale the service from over 15 cities. Amazon said it aimed to cross 300 cities across India. Andy Jassy is also expected to travel to Delhi this week.

Amazon planned to add more micro and urban fulfilment centres across the network. These sites would stock a wider range of daily essentials. The planned mix included groceries, fruits, vegetables and frozen food. Amazon also listed personal care, fashion, beauty, small appliances, and home items.

Amazon said it would expand specialised fulfilment infrastructure across India. Amazon said it aimed to offer tens of thousands of products in minutes or a few hours. Amazon added it could deliver over one million within the same day. The company said over four million would arrive next day, plus Prime deliveries.

Amazon Now and quick-commerce competition

India’s quick commerce market has become a fast-growing part of the digital economy. Amazon linked growth to demand for ultra-fast delivery and shifting habits. Services that began with groceries and basics have spread to more categories. These include electronics, beauty items, home needs, and fashion accessories.

Amazon entered a crowded field where several firms were scaling up. Competitors included Blinkit, IPO-bound Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart and Amazon. The companies have been investing to widen networks and improve supply chains. They have also been adding more products to attract younger buyers.

Amazon Now and Andy Jassy meetings on AI

Andy Jassy also met Indian business leaders to discuss AI, innovation, and India’s role as a builder. The talks focused on moving AI from trials to real outcomes. Leaders discussed building for customers in India and abroad. The group included executives from consumer goods, telecom, banking, and technology.

Attendees included Sunil D’Souza, MD and CEO, Tata Consumer Products. Others included Baskar Subramanian, Co-Founder and CEO, Amagi, and Sandeep Dutta, President AWS India and South Asia. Also present were Abhijeet Kishore, CEO, Vodafone Idea, V Vaidyanathan, MD and CEO, IDFC FIRST Bank, and Anchit Nayar, CEO, Beauty ad E-commerce, Nykaa.

Andy Jassy also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Amazon said. The discussion covered Amazon’s commitment to the state. Amazon said India had the scale, talent and ambition for AI-led business change. Andy Jassy pointed to engineering talent and digital adoption in India.

Amazon said the Mumbai visit was the first stop of Andy Jassy’s India tour. The company recently announced a USD 35 billion investment commitment by 2030. Amazon said this built on top of USD 40 billion already invested. Amazon linked the spending to expansion, AI-driven digitisation, exports, and jobs.

"Great to be in India and visit an Amazon Now micro-fulfilment centre in one of the busiest areas of Mumbai,\" Jassy said in a post on X.

\"Labelling it as Amazons fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in India, he said the company is expanding to 300-plus cities as part of a plan to build the countrys largest delivery-in-minutes network.\"

\"And what weve learned building it here is now helping us scale it across the US and around the world,\" he wrote on the social media platform.

\"Things needed quickly, like groceries, shampoo, baby products, get picked and delivered just minutes after being ordered,\" Jassy said, adding that customers are loving it...

Amazon Now and Sammaan delivery associate welfare

Amazon also announced Sammaan, a programme for the welfare of tens of thousands of delivery associates. Amazon said these workers supported both e-commerce and quick commerce deliveries. The company said part of Amazon India’s USD 300 million investment would support this effort. Amazon said the funds would strengthen and scale Sammaan.

Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India, said Prime members used Amazon Now more often after starting. Amazon said Prime members tripled their shopping frequency once they began using it. The company linked the expansion to delivery associates. Amazon said the associates were central to meeting delivery timelines across cities.

\"We have further accelerated our expansion and will offer ultra-fast deliveries to customers in over 300 cities in India. None of this is possible without our delivery associates who are at the heart of our e-commerce and quick commerce business, and I am excited as we launch Sammaan, a dedicated programme focused on delivery associate welfare,\" he said.

Amazon said the expansion of Amazon Now would rely on more fulfilment capacity and a broader product range. The company said demand for faster delivery was growing across categories. Amazon positioned India as a key market during Andy Jassy’s tour. The company said it would combine investment, logistics build-out, and associate support in its plans.
