Anthropic Expands with Bengaluru Office and Partnerships

Focus on Local Talent and Partnerships

Under the leadership of Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, the Bengaluru office will prioritise hiring local talent for diverse roles. Anthropic aims to support its expanding customer base by offering applied AI expertise to enterprises, digital natives, and startups. These efforts are intended to help businesses design and scale solutions powered by Claude.

Anthropic's commitment to India is further demonstrated through partnerships in enterprise, education, and agriculture. Ghose highlighted India's potential for responsible AI adoption due to its technical talent and robust digital infrastructure. She emphasised the importance of reaching those who can benefit most from this technology.

Addressing Language Diversity

Despite India's linguistic diversity, AI models often perform better in English than in other languages. To address this, Anthropic launched an initiative six months ago to improve training data quality in ten widely spoken Indian languages. This effort has enhanced model fluency, with ongoing work to further refine these capabilities.

Collaborations with Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project aim to evaluate AI performance on tasks relevant to Indian domains like agriculture and law. These evaluations will be developed with input from experts at nonprofits such as Digital Green and Adalat AI. The results will guide future model improvements for Indic language speakers.

AI Adoption Across Industries

Anthropic's AI model is being adopted by various organisations in India. Air India uses Claude Code to expedite custom software development at reduced costs. CRED has achieved faster feature delivery and improved test coverage with Claude Code. Cognizant is deploying Claude across 350,000 employees globally to modernise systems and support AI adoption.

Satya Ramaswamy of Air India stated: "Our partnership with Anthropic is pivotal in our quest to become a leading Agentic Airline. Claude Code from Anthropic has become a revolutionary tool for our developers that empowers them to complete more software development tasks much faster."

Educational Initiatives and Future Growth

In education, Pratham has partnered with Anthropic as its first strategic AI lab partner due to shared values on safety and educational rigour. Their Anytime Testing Machine, powered by Claude, is being piloted with 1,500 students across 20 schools, with plans for expansion.

The machine supports Pratham's Second Chance programme for women who left formal schooling by providing flexible learning pathways. Anthropic plans to expand its partnerships in India over the coming months and years through its increased presence.

Anthropic's strategic moves in India reflect its dedication to leveraging AI for diverse applications while addressing local needs and challenges. The company's focus on partnerships and local talent underscores its commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the region.
