Apple Announces Kevan Parekh To Succeed Luca Maestri As CFO; Who Is The New Indian Origin CFO?

Apple Inc, the world-renowned tech giant, has announced a transition in its leadership that is set to take place at the beginning of 2025. Luca Maestri, Apple's long-serving Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will step down from his role on January 1, 2025, making way for Kevan Parekh, Apple's Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis, to ascend to the position.

Kevan Parekh, an Indian-origin engineer with a background in both technical and business disciplines, will not only take over as CFO but will also join Apple's executive team. This transition is the second leadership shift Apple has made in recent weeks.

Kevan Parekh

Who Is Kevan Parekh?

Parekh holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Chicago, one of the world's most esteemed business schools. These credentials have provided him with a blend of technical expertise and strategic business acumen.

Before joining Apple, Parekh built a career at Thomson Reuters and General Motors, where he held various senior leadership positions that laid the foundation for his later success at Apple. At Thomson Reuters, Parekh served as Vice President of Finance and ultimately as Corporate Treasurer, where he was responsible for the company's financial strategy and treasury operations. His tenure at General Motors was equally distinguished, with roles including Director of Business Development in New York and Regional Treasurer in Zurich, Europe.

Kevan Parekh joined Apple 11 years ago, and since then, he has played an instrumental role in the company. Currently, as the Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis, Parekh oversees several critical areas, including Financial Planning and Analysis, General and Administrative (G&A) and Benefits Finance, Investor Relations, and Market Research.

Prior to his current role, Parekh was leading finance for Apple's Worldwide Sales, Retail, and Marketing divisions. His involvement in these business units has given him a comprehensive understanding of Apple's financial ecosystem. According to a Bloomberg report, Parekh has been groomed by Maestri for the CFO role over the past several months.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed strong confidence in Parekh's abilities to lead Apple's financial operations into the future. "For more than a decade, Kevan has been an indispensable member of Apple's finance leadership team, and he understands the company inside and out. His sharp intellect, wise judgment, and financial brilliance make him the perfect choice to be Apple's next CFO," Cook stated.

Luca Maestri, who has been at the helm of Apple's finances since 2014, also voiced his support for Parekh. "I'm looking forward to the next stage of my time at Apple, and I have enormous confidence in Kevan as he prepares to take the reins as CFO. He is truly exceptional, has a deep love for Apple and its mission, and he embodies the leadership, judgment, and values that are so important to this role," Maestri said. Under Maestri's leadership, Apple achieved remarkable financial milestones, including becoming the first company to reach a trillion-dollar market valuation. He will continue leading Apple's Corporate Services teams, including information systems and technology, information security, and real estate and development.

As Kevan Parekh prepares to step into the role of CFO, Apple is poised for a new phase of financial leadership that will likely continue to drive its success in an increasingly competitive global market. Parekh's deep understanding of Apple's operations, combined with his strategic vision and financial expertise, positions him well.
